Lessons learned
The more eyes, the better. This makes me upset that I don't own some form of cheap camcorder. That impulse, in turn, makes me think about the balance of privacy, anonymity and public responsibility. On the other hand, if I want to be anonymous and maintain my privacy, I should be smart enough to not be walking around near large public functions like the Republican National Convention. I object to always-on, government-controlled surveillance of public places. However, I support the right of citizens to record the agents of government doing their job in order to maintain a check on their behavior, because (as this story clearly shows) sometimes those checks are vitally necessary.
